Calgary Airport to Banff at Night: Late Arrivals Explained
International flights and delayed connections often land in Calgary late. Here's what your options actually look like after 10pm.
What closes at Calgary Airport after 10pm
YYC itself stays open around the clock, but many services in and around the airport wind down. Most rental car counters close by 11pm or midnight. Public transit into Calgary reduces frequency. Shuttle buses to Banff stop running — the last scheduled shuttle typically leaves late evening, and if your flight is delayed you'll miss it.
Taxi from YYC to Banff
Taxis will take you from Calgary Airport to Banff — but a metered ride runs $250–$350+ CAD depending on time, tolls, and traffic. Taxis are also not always available late at night, and drivers may not be experienced on Highway 1 in winter darkness.
Renting a car and driving yourself at night
The Trans-Canada is well-maintained and lit near Calgary, but the last hour into Banff is dark two-lane driving through wildlife country. Elk, deer, and occasional bighorn sheep cross the highway. In winter, black ice past Canmore is common. After a long flight, this is not the drive to make yourself if you can avoid it.

What to expect at the airport

Booking a late arrival
Book at least 24 hours ahead if you can. Include your flight number so we can track it, and your hotel name — we drop off directly at the lobby. Late arrivals are our normal, not an exception.
